The department collected over $4.7 million in court ordered fees and fines in fiscal year ’05, representing a 4% decrease from FY ’04. Collections for felony court costs showed an increase of 13% and misdemeanor court costs collected increased by .3% from the previous year. Felony fines collected decreased by 3% and misdemeanor fines collected decreased by 20%. Supervision fees showed a 6% decrease from FY '04. Pre-trial program and supervision fees increased 12% from the previous year.
Supervision, pre-trial, urinalysis and program fees are assessed by the Courts to reduce the cost of community supervision to the taxpayer and to insure an offender pays for at least a portion of the cost of supervision. Fines and deferment fees are paid to the Williamson County General fund to offset the county's expenses and restitution is paid to the victims to help offset any losses caused by the crimes. Court appointed attorney fees are collected and returned to Williamson County, in the total amount originally paid to the offender's court ordered appointed attorney.
Restitution fees collected and returned to victims in FY '05 totalled $641,813, a 13% increase from last year.
